Sunday night I had a tachycardia event. Mostly the thing is controlled by medication, but every 5-6 months I have an episode, which keeps me honest on my meds, I can tell you. The pain in my chest and the extraordinary weakness the next day keep me down and quiet. But today I'm back at work and twice as ornery as usual. All I can say is, thank God for modern medicine. My great-grandmother had the same problem and she was housebound for 20 years because her doctor told her not to go outside and exert herself. She only lived to be 84 years old. I have meds for the problem, and I have to watch what I eat--dry bread, dry baked potato, dry crackers set it off, though I don't know why. But I make sure when I eat those things I drink plenty of liquids to wash them down. Sunday I absent mindedly ate a few crackers dry (I love the crunch) and sure enough, about 30 minutes later, there it went, pounding away. It still frightens me, but when it first started, about 20 years ago, I thought I was going to die. Now it's just scary. A reminder of mortality.
