2005-03-29 11:48 AM Queen Elizabeth and William Shakespeare Previous Entry :: Next Entry Read/Post Comments (0) Stayed up most of the night finishing off Ruled Britannia by Harry Turtledove. I should have known I wouldn't be able to put it down, so I never should have picked it up -- but resistance to temptation is futile. (Where have I heard that echo?)
It's a marvelous book, a definite solid 4 in my book rating chart. The epilogue to the play (two lines) gripped me and held me and the responding roar of British rebellion was gut-level satisfying. No glorification of war and battle, though; some of the subsequent scenes were sickeningly real. And your first glimpse of Queen Elizabeth--you have to remember to breathe. I'll read his other books and I'll pass this one on to a friend and hope she enjoys it, too. Waiting semi-patiently for Justinian to be delivered to my door. I really wish I had the self-control not to read all night when I have to go to work the next morning, but how can you say "no" to something you love, to one of the many enjoyable things that make life worth living? The price (drowsiness) is worth the pleasure. I'm going to spend the rest of my lunch hour taking a nap. Yawn. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
