From the front lawn
There arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my chair
To search out the matter.

The dog, as is her wont,
Fearful of noise
The closet did haunt
And ignored all her toys.

The neighbors next door
Yelled and tooted noisemakers,
Shook the house floor;
It resounded for acres.

So greeted we all
Two thousand and six;
We're ready today
A New Year to mix.
