Home again, home again, kitty and me. I'm back to work today, then off again tomorrow for more doctors' appointments. For the first time in my life, I'm carrying around a calendar in my bag and checking it twice daily for updates. Who knew there would be VA appointments, x-rays, meetings, jury duty, report due, manager's vacation, and a Bar Mitzvah all in a two-week span of time? Oh, yes, I forgot my own doctor appointment and dentist appointment. Add two more to the list. Gracious, you'd think I was a busy person or something. It was strangely reassuring to get back to work today, at my familiar desk, the comfortable array of writing implements, computer and keyboard, mousepad and monitor, tickle file and all the rest. This has been my home away from home for so long that, oddly enough, I missed it. When I think of all the times I've said I'd rather be anywhere else....this is the devil I know (and can deal with) as opposed to the devil I don't. The first thing I did after returning to work was put in for more vacation, family leave and illness time off for the foreseeable future. I did get a funny look, but no argument. After nearly perfect attendance for (mumble, mumble) years, there's no question about getting time off when I need it. Still, though, it feels funny to be off work. I guess a large part of my ego is involved in what I do every day at this desk. I'm gradually changing that, because in a few years I plan to retire and I want to be prepared psychologically as well as financially. Time to go back to pushing pixels....
