2006-05-26 8:30 AM California, Energy and Enron Previous Entry :: Next Entry Read/Post Comments (7) Enron's Lay and Skilling face prison terms. Meanwhile, California stares another hot summer in the face and no structural/procedural resolution to the following problem:
Energy companies (in Texas, for instance) shut down facilities "for repair" just as the energy demand peaks, and Governor Schwarzenegger has to institute extraordinary payments for energy at outrageous prices. Of course, all of this is completely aboveboard. The need for repair and refitting will not be investigated and reviewed by an impartial team of engineers, because the power companies are honest and true. And our Governor is above reproach. His friendships and contacts with people in high (energy) places is merely coincidental and he cannot tolerate any hint that we should think otherwise. We pay the price--in the billions of dollars.
