2006-10-03 7:17 PM MS and Vitamin D Previous Entry :: Next Entry Read/Post Comments (5) Wow. I have just read on the National MS Society website a report that says that adequate intake of Vitamin D daily (600 units) is linked to reduced risk of developing Multiple Sclerosis.
And elsewhere I learned that increased daily dosages of Vitamin D (1000 units) may help with reducing the severity of attacks and slowing the progression of the disease. The increased dosage is because sufferers of MS usually have a reduced ability to process the Vitamin D (D3) properly. I checked with my doctor and he said, try it. So long as I don't overdose, it may help. I don't get enough sun exposure as I should (indoor job and all) and, in addition, he said, I might find that the pain in my hip and knee is relieved, as well. When I asked him why this wasn't more heavily publicised, he said briefly, "No patents, no advertising, no money." Well, anyway, for a few paltry bucks I can get 200 of the little 1000 unit gelatin caps. I'll let you know if they have any effect. Keep your fingers crossed.
