I looked for the antonym of "misanthrope" in the dictionary and all I could find was "philanthropist". To my mind, the two are not each other's opposites. If a misanthrope is someone who dislikes other people, finds their conversation boring and prefers solitude to society, what is the opposite? A social butterfly? Someone who donates money to charities or does good works? Neither seems to fit what I have in mind: someone who sees the good in other people, respects their worth and dignity, and enjoys their company.
