The story of the bridge collapse and the search for survivors is horrible.

It's the main topic of conversation at work. We remember the Northridge earthquake of 1994 only too vividly. There was that horrible sound like the trump of doom and the ensuing event--including freeways damaged, apartment buildings collapsing and houses turned to rubble.

If you look at pictures of the collapse, look closely at the one with the school bus. If the tractor-trailer rig hadn't jammed the bus up against the guardrail (thereby bringing it to a stop), the bus would have gone over the edge just as the truck eventually did, bursting into flame.

My heart goes out to them, the dead, the injured, and the survivors.
