2008-08-26 8:06 AM A Sense of Direction Previous Entry :: Next Entry Read/Post Comments (6) Google Earth is a wonderful thing. Images from Google Earth have confirmed that cattle tend to align their bodies in a north/south direction. I never noticed it before, but cows grazing do tend to face the same direction, regardless of wind direction or position of the sun.
It has been long known that many species -- birds, salmon, bats -- use a magnetic sense, a sort of compass if you will, to help them find their way during migration. Turns out that larger animals have this "sixth sense" as well, deer as well as cattle. Might it be that humans are included, hence the alignment of monuments and tombs, especially among early humans? Feng shui also springs to mind as an example of the phenomenon. So. Next time you're lost in the boonies, look for a herd of cows. Follow the direction they point and you'll either be headed in the right direction or 180 degrees off! Read/Post Comments (6) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
