Some refer to him as "Obama" or "Barack Obama" or "Senator Obama". (Or, "that one".) Some, correctly, name him "President-Elect Obama" or "President-Elect Barack Obama". Probably too many syllables in the correct appellations for the knuckle-draggers. But seriously--a person is framed, or defined, by his naming. There is a subtle inclination to put President-Elect Obama in his place ("back of the bus, boy") by giving him a lesser title, or no title at all. Remember W's penchant for folksy monikers. (In case you doubt the power of naming, just try calling a person of color "boy".) Read/Post Comments (5) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
