The credit card companies have APRs of 15%+ and a yearly fee charged for idle or low use cards. They predicted higher APRs and tougher credit restrictions, and then it became a self-fulfilling prophecy. They are doing fine. Consumers' credit limits get reduced, thus crushing credit ratings, even for good customers. No wonder people can't refinance mortgages. Meanwhile, I see more people being laid off. Families that depended on two incomes to stay afloat have lost one income stream and are struggling to breathe.
