One of my friends is the plant manager where I work. When he signs on, he stops in my office for 10-15 minutes and we pass the time of day, talking about whatever's on our minds. That's my 15-minute break, then I go back to work. Yes, we email, we text also. We empathize, we growl at the stupidities of our times, our woes as caregivers. Other employees make comments to me like, "You and he are goooood friends." And, "Such real good friends." Nudge, nudge, wink, wink, you know what I mean? We have two other employees (chief among the commentators) who are close friends. They go camping together, share important times of each others' lives. They talk constantly, at length, on paid time, about everything--planning camping trips, dogs, partners, birthday parties, past escapades, trashing coworkers, you name it. Nobody says a thing.
