First Day, New Month

The weather continues moderately hot during the day, cool at night. Very unusual for this late in the summer. Had dinner with friends last night and, when the conversation topic turned to the weather, most everyone thought that the coolness extending this far into the heart of summer means that we're in for extremely hot weather in August (as usual) and September (usually starts to cool mid-September) and on into October.

It feels like a climate change (as opposed to a temporary weather thing), with the hot days extending well into autumn and running triple degree temps day after day.

To top it all off, our rainy season doesn't start until November, if then. We've been getting dry winters for years now, so much so that the occasional rainy day is top headline news.

I thought the oranges and yellows appropriate for the new month, in anticipation of hot weather, full on sunshine.

Batty, as you sit shivering in your multiple layers of winter clothing, think of big yellow school buses baking in the afternoon September sun. Loading zones always seem to be on the west side of the school, just perfect to turn them (the buses) into ungainly yellow ovens, as drivers wait for students to get out of school and board the buses for the ride home.

High schools this year start classes August 16th. Supposed to be better for the students, but I have yet to hear anyone explain why.
