Normally it takes about an hour, but this month writers seem to have taken leave of their sense of language: misspellings, awful punctuation, awkward sentences and just plain non-sense. So it took a bit longer than usual to edit.
Then it was time for church (Emerson UU). Haven't been in quite a while, and was greeted like the prodigal daughter. More than one person wanted to sit by me--I felt like a bit of flypaper. It felt good to have my friends and family by adoption around me once again. I've missed the sense of community, the love we have for one another, the element of fun, the dedication to service, the conversation and connection. After Emerson, had a quick chicken sandwich, wrestled the wheelchair into the back of the car and drove to the VA. Unloaded wheelchair and its bag and put the footrests back on, wheeled it past security and up to N's room. He told me he didn't have a wheelchair at home. I said, "Yes, dear," and left the chair by his bed. He also told me that his cell phone fell apart and he put it back together again (!) but now it doesn't work. I pushed the power button on, told him I had rehabbed it for him, and now he's a happy camper. He used the phone later in the day to call me (right in the middle of my so-called nap). He needs to keep practicing so he'll remember how to use it. Then off to an early dinner with a friend. We went to the Cheesecake Factory, one of my favorite places, though on the expensive side. Since it's the first dinner out in three months, didn't cavil at the cost. Checked email, put stuff together to take to work tomorrow, and I'm really ready for a good night's sleep. Today was more socializing all at once than I've engaged in for a good long time. Felt wonderful, but I'm ready now for some down time. Cool quiet evening. Life is good.
