It's Too Quiet

My boss keeps saying, "It's too quiet," meaning that we should be getting more phone calls and requests than we are. That's putting it mildly. The office has been fully staffed for an hour and a half, and we've had exactly one call. It's like waiting for the other shoe to drop in the upstairs apartment.

Yesterday was lovely. I puttered around the house and spent some time reading and generally enjoyed a low-key day. In the evening N called and had his usual laundry list of things he wants me to get for him and do for him and bring to him, but even that wasn't particularly upsetting. It's what he does.

I haven't seen Misty since yesterday morning, but she always disappears into some quiet spot on the Fourth of July and on New Year's Eve. Both cats dislike the bangs and sizzles and pops of those celebrations.

I'm working at a fairly slow pace today; let's hope it stays this way. My boss keeps visiting each of us, trying to rev us into action, saying--what have we forgotten, why is it so quiet, should we move the computer downstairs, etc. etc. He has trouble just letting it be. I think he's anxious. He wants things to be done right, and a laid back day makes him nervous.

Everything's going to be just fine. We've done this before, for so many years, and it always works out in the end.

Now he's fretting that a key employee might not come to work tomorrow. For heaven's sake, a lot of things might happen tomorrow, but stop driving me crazy with it!
