2011-07-15 12:01 PM Astonishing Previous Entry :: Next Entry Read/Post Comments (5) Our school district is offering credit recovery summer school to students who are retaking a course to gain back the credits they lost by having failed the course during the year (math or English only). This year, nearly 19,300 students in grades 10-12 are enrolled in the summer session, which began July 6th and ends August 2nd.
Think about that number. Over NINETEEN THOUSAND students, not in grades K-12, but only in high school 10-12. Even if 10% are taking advanced placement classes, that leaves a breathtaking 17,000+ needing remedial classwork. This is the most revealing statistic I've seen, the most telling metric regarding the quality of our schools and the efforts of our students and parents and teachers.
