The beaches named were those which are home to some of the country's best-known celebrities and richest corporation CEOs. The article pointed out that university economists spent two years projecting economic losses several coastal California communities could expect from climate change, the growing concentration of greenhouse gases trapping heat with resultant temperature increases. None of those facts will cause a whisper of concern to the economic right wing. What WILL, finally, get them on board with climate change will be the loss to their corporate puppet masters of their California playgrounds: Carpinteria, Malibu, Venice, and Torrey Pines (San Diego). By the time the changes have caused havoc to the beaches, public reactions will be too little, too late, coming months or years after the first major disaster (deep beach erosion after a monster storm, for example). Only when it's important to celebrities or politicians or CEOs will climate change be acknowledged. And that will be past the tipping point.
