Today was the 48th anniversary of JFK's assassination. I was in my room, studying with the radio on in the background and the cat asleep on my shoulder.

When I heard the news, I did what all the other students seemed to have the same instinct for--went to Sproul Plaza and huddled with friends and strangers and townspeople. Listened for further radio reports and cried.

Something was broken, from that day to this.
