As far as I can tell, hiccups serve no bodily purpose, neither for [hic] survival nor for reproduction. But there they are, [hic] just annoying the hell out of me.

If I remember correctly, hiccups [hic] are a result of involuntary contraction of the diaphragm. [hic] Swell. Understanding how they occur doesn't do much for making them [hic] go away.

I held my breath until I was turning blue. [hic} I tried drinking 12 ounces of cold water. [hic] Then I went up and down stairs quickly.

Whew! That did it. What a relief!
