2012-05-20 12:30 PM NATO Demonstrations Previous Entry :: Next Entry Read/Post Comments (4) Forgive me if I'm dense, but what are the demonstrators in Chicago demonstrating for (or against)? Or is this one of those "It's spring; let's go raise some hell" type things.
The only policy indication I could find was that the demonstrators are anarchists. Organizing in favor of anarchy? The U.S. is already considering the merits of disbanding NATO, is that what it's all about? I'm confused. After a lot of reading, this is the most coherent explanation I could find: 'We're spending $700 billion a year on defense ... We spent $120 billion in 2011 in Afghanistan. The takeaway I got from the protesters was that this money could be better spent at home than on these different foreign policy adventures. The adventures have turned out not to be very beneficial for most Americans or most Afghans either.' Read/Post Comments (4) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
