Peace with Justice; Justice with Peace. Pretty much sums up this conference. A lot of presentations concerning support for the DREAM Act and concerns about ICE detention and treatment of undocumented workers (or, in some cases, documented but held without being able to communicate with friends and family).

Families are torn apart as the children, who are citizens, are put into foster care, while the parents are deported.

One thing I learned is that ICE has a quota of 400,000 deportations to accomplish (that's how much the Obama Administration funded). I need to find out if that is true. Sometimes things get promoted as fact which are only surmises.

There will be a vigil tonight at Sheriff Arpaio's infamous tent detention center; at night, the temps will be in the 90's. Can you imagine living in tents in this weather?

Dinner with friends in an hour or so. Our minister wants to make sure that we're attending the correct workshops to bring information back to our congregation.

I'm attending the workshops that interest me. I'm not an official delegate and I paid my own way; I don't feel an obligation to report to anyone. Which, I suspect, makes me the quintessential Unitarian Universalist, following my conscience, not responding to someone else's rules.

Tomorrow has some interesting sessions scheduled.
