Let it Be

It's nearly 5:30 p.m. and this is the first few minutes I've had to sit and meditate a bit, then write an entry. I've had a long extroverted day and my reading chair, lamp and lap robe are looking good to me, with a nice selection of music thrown in, heaven.

Church started for volunteers an hour and a half early this morning. We had a fundraising service and party today, so it was very busy. Lots of conversation, coffee, salad, pizza and a cookie sale. Also a jewelry sale with jewelry donated by women who cleaned out their old stuff. There were some nice pieces offered.

It always astonishes me that people seek me out and like to talk to me. I don't see myself as particularly fascinating or witty, but I have to admit there was never any shortage of people and conversation at my table. I can fake being an extrovert with the best of them.

After church I had a few minutes to change my clothes and grab an iced tea, then company came, carrying over the conversation from the church. We nibbled on cookies and argued about political activism and the value (or not) of compromise. Mostly they argued and I listened, though at one point I came down in the middle--I argued for balance.

It seems to me that extremism distorts values, no matter how righteous the positions are at first. It's always necessary to temper them with real life experience and a willingness to listen for the grain of truth in those who argue against us. Gosh, that's easier said than done.

Now maybe I can eat dinner--a granola bar--and enjoy some peace and quiet for a couple of hours. Let it be so.
