1. Republicans demanded that President Obama accept Social Security cuts through chained-CPI. 2. Obama, looking for a compromise, reluctantly agreed and offered Republicans what they asked for. 3. Republicans are now attacking Obama for proposing the policy they demanded, saying that he is balancing the budget at the expense of disabled and seniors. My Libertarian friends say to me, "A pox on both their houses! I want nothing to do with any of this. They're all crooks and liars." I say that we have to remain engaged in the political process or, by our silence, by default, we accede to the loudest and craziest.
