The more elegant word seems to convey a sense of professionalism, which is, I suppose, why so many professions have been renamed. The person who was a janitor when I was young, became a custodian in the 70's and when I retired, a plant manager. Which, in a way, best describes the position, I think. He/she really keeps the place together.
My mother, herself a teacher, used to say if you want to know what's *really* going on in a school, ask the nurse or the plant manager, not the principal. I found, when I went into teaching, that it was true. Anyway, I digress from my original topic, because I don't want to talk much about it. I'm going to have oral surgery this morning. There. Done with that. On to the cup of coffee and the morning's email. Have a lovely day, my friends, whatever your circumstances and plans for the day.
