What are you reading right now?
Tales of the City by Armistead Maupin, for the umpteenth time. I haven't had time or inclination to get to the library (hush yo' mouth).

Do you have any idea what you'll read when you're done with that?
No, but I know how I'll get it - I'll go to the library and walk around in fiction until something catches my eye.

What's the worst thing you were ever forced to read?
The Book of Mormon. I wasn't forced, I guess, and I'd really like to know what it says, but my goodness it's tough to get through. Are there Cliff's Notes?

What's the one book you always recommend to just about everyone?
Alan Mendelsohn, Boy From Mars by Daniel Manus Pinkwater.

Admit it, the librarians at your library know you on a first name basis, don't they?
If they do, it's because of my former job as teacher's union president. It's a small town, so they might have seen me in the paper.

Do you read books while you eat?
If I'm alone, yes. If I'm with others, no, unless we're all reading. That seldom happens.

While you bathe?
Yes! I've had blue hands from the color seeping off of Tales of the City, in fact. Many of my books are a little warped because of inadvertent swimming jaunts.

While you watch movies or TV?
No. I can't sit still when I watch movies or TV, but if I do anything it will be something with my hands.

While you listen to music?
Only if the music doesn't have words, and even then, I am so easily auditorily distracted that I often have to just turn the music off.

While you're on the computer?
No, I read printed books.

While you're having sex?
No, but I have been known to bring the dictionary into bed afterward, and point out interesting word origins to my bed partner. And yes, I've gotten some interesting looks!

While you're driving?
No. I don't have the audio book jones yet, and I don't drive very far.

What's the last thing you stayed up half the night reading because it was so good you couldn't put it down?
Wow. Probably Lamb by Christopher Moore.
