2007-09-09 6:27 PM Lake Serene/Mt. Index Hike (pics) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Read/Post Comments (1) Friends and I hiked to Lake Serene today. PT Gal and OT Gal start up to Lake Serene. A smaller waterfall. Hard to see in the pic how majestic and sheer it is. A venerable old maple tree. Peek-a-boo view, one of many to come. Wow, we're already this high up? For scale, my head (I'm 5'2") only reached about halfway up the face of this log, about where the big vertical crack is. Now, there's a view. This is the Skykomish River Valley, near Index, WA. First glimpse of the top of the spire of Mt. Index (5979 feet). For later comparison, the lake is at 2521 feet, so those spires still go up a long way. Told you there'd be more views. This is essentially to the west. Boulder and creek crossing. Northeast, into the Glacier Peak Wilderness. Due north. The large arcing stone face on the lower right is the Index Town Wall, a popular climbing area. Mt. Index's spires. Main is to the right, hard to see. The bridge to Lunch Rock. Which way?! Both are excellent. Lake Serene. Gnarled stump at Lunch Rock. Snow cave #1. Snow Cave #2. The main face of Mt. Index, that can be seen from Highway 2 for quite a distance. Driftwood at the outlet of Lake Serene. Ladder tree. The spray from this place felt so good on the way down! Read/Post Comments (1) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
