My landlady is still trying to get the plumber out here. I agree with her (I know, put it on the calendar) that given the quirks of this very old, very cobbled-together building, it makes sense to bring in the plumber who actually knows those quirks. Many other plumbers would just take one look at our Beloved Building and say, "uh, no thanks". So, we wait for our Dear Plumber to get over the flu.

And here's the civility part: She offered me the use of the furnished apartment in her home. I was shocked, and let her know that was generous (actually, it's cheaper for her than putting me up somewhere, but I am buttering the bread in anticipation of a lateral move to Port-au-Patois #6).

My conclusion is that it is better to stay here, with my routine, my kitties and my stuff until we know if this will be a repair involving some crawlspace work, or one involving backhoes and digging and general protracted messiness.

Until such time as the nature of the repair is apparent, I am sticking to my place. I'll haul water from next door for as long as my Loveliest Neighbor lets me.
