2008-03-22 9:09 PM Mosquito Lake Road / Lake Whatcom Ride Previous Entry :: Next Entry Read/Post Comments (2) The CBWMC (biker gals) started out this morning from the Lynnwood Starbucks, headed for Whatcom County and the legendary Mosquito Lake Road.
The group consisted of: Elsa (ride leader) - Shadow VLX 600 Wanda - Heritage Softtail Josepha - Triumph Legend 900 JackieMarie - Big Honda (Shadow, or VTX, JM?) Denita - Triumph Tiger We took the scenic route to Seattle Hill Road (thanks to Wanda for the pointer!), and the Snohomish River Valley opened up before us. Across the valley lay Highway 9, which we then followed northward through Snohomish, Lake Stevens, and Arlington. There were plenty of dry, tasty curves around Lake McMurray, Big Lake, and Clear Lake. While we were sometimes vexed by the ultra-scrupulous folks going just under the speed limit, we were able to ride comfortably and unfettered for most of the day. At our pit stop at the Big Rock Store, a local told us that it had snowed there last night, and that the temperature had gotten down to 25 degrees! He said there was a distinct possibility of ice on Mosquito Lake Road. Hmmm. Time to poll the group. Consensus was to leave MLR for later in the season; instead we headed up to Wickersham and then skirted Lake Whatcom to the west. We neglected to stop at Scooters Store, but have vowed to stop next time! Traffic became fairly heavy as we approached Bellingham proper. We headed down Alabama Hill, and through town to LaFiamma Woodfire Pizza. Here we are, tired, a little cold, and pretty happy: Left to right, it's Wanda, Josepha, Elsa, Denita and JackieMarie. Our toes were very cold! After lunch, Wanda, Denita and JackieMarie The headed home down I-5. Elsa and Josepha tooled around B'ham, stopping at the Triumph dealership to fondle the bikes, then ending the day by taking Chuckanut Drive home. Mosquito Lake Road, we're coming for you!
