I love this idea, these values. I thank my parents for not buying me electronic toys (I've done that myself as an adult) and for abandoning Christmas when I was nine years old. I am seen by some as being without "spirit"; I feel I am a person living more deliberately each day.

For those of us realizing that the global economy is built on the backs of children and slave laborers, for those feeling uncertain about our place in the world, for those of use enslaved by debt driven by unnecessary desires, and for those of us who always knew that things don't equal love, read on.

Statement of Belief :: Reverend Billy and the Stop Shopping Gospel Choir believe that Consumerism is overwhelming our lives. The corporations want us to have experiences only through their products. Our neighborhoods, "commons" places like stoops and parks and streets and libraries, are disappearing into the corporatized world of big boxes and chain stores. But if we "back away from the product" - even a little bit, well then we Put The Odd Back In God! The supermodels fly away and we're left with our original sensuality. So we are singing and preaching for local economies and real - not mediated through products -- experience. We like independent shops where you know the person behind the counter or at least - you like them enough to share a story. We ask that local activists who are defending themselves against supermalls, nuke plants, gentrification -- call us and we'll come and put on our "Fabulous Worship!" Remember children... Love is a Gift Economy! — The Rev

They've made a movie, "What Would Jesus Buy?" which they describe thus: Produced by Morgan Spurlock and directed by Rob VanAlkemade, this docu-comedy follows our trials and triumphs across the country as we preach and sing to help holiday-abused Americans find a new Christmas without products.

We're happy to announce our DVD packaging contains NO PLASTIC and most of the container is made of post-consumer recycled paper.

This film has played throughout the US, bringing Fair Trade activists and Evangelical Christians together in darkened movie theaters, emerging with new tools to BUY LESS and GIVE MORE!
