I hiked to Lake 22 with L and G. Amazing, and less difficult than I remembered. We had to cross snow once on the last south approach to the lake, and then cross a lot more snow as we followed the trail around the lake. The boardwalk was hidden in all areas that fell in the shadow of Mt. Pilchuck’s peak, so we did some minor scrambling. We ate lunch at the south end of the lake, sitting on a boulder in a snow field at the lake’s edge. It was clear to see that this end of the lake would be an ideal swimming place should the weather be warmer. More snow scrambling on the west end of things, and suddenly we were on our way down. My knees started to protest about halfway down, but I sucked it up and made it to the parking lot just fine. My back didn’t twinge until the last switchbacks down. Once I was on the motorcycle, it settled right down. That backrest was worth the extra $200! I have, in deference to my back, limited my massages to 4 hours per day. The front desk is still confused about 1 massage = 1 hour, and scheduled me for 5.5 hours today. I told them they’d have to call the last dude and tell him he can reschedule for tomorrow. Ouch, but I was pretty clear that I wanted to be blocked out after the 4 hours. In defense of the front desk staff, I have changed my schedule a couple of times, and there is no central information system (i.e., a log book or emails or anything of the sort) to get information to the staff in an organized way. It seems to be that news is handed down through oral tradition, which is fine if you’re storytelling, but not fine if you’re running a business and need consistency. Nonetheless, things are going okay as long as I don’t overdo it. I think I was a little macho going in, accepting 6 hours a day, but I’m smarter now. :-) My friend J took me out to Chuckanut Manor for dinner. Wow, the view is incredible: you sit on a deck overlooking Samish Bay, with the San Juan Islands and the sunset to the west. Can’t beat it. The food was good but not spectacular; the salad dressing was a basil vinaigrette that was to die for! J’s company was much appreciated and cherished. My mom and I have decided to try the “every third weekend” plan at her house for now. I just feel so strongly that I would be depressed if I uprooted again. My friends counseled me that perhaps this arrangement would be enough for the time being, and to not worry about how things might be in the future. I said I was worried to start up a practice and then possibly have to move, and they told me to just not think that way. I think they are wise, and right. So, it’s every third weekend. Huzzah, we all win. I just got a $20 tip. Life can be so nice sometimes. I’ve been needing for some time to upgrade my hard drive and RAM, so I bought all the stuff and got detailed instructions from the nice boy at the Mac store as to how to do that. Well, as so often is the case in electronics, I was thwarted by unanticipated BS. I got the enclosure out, put my new HD in it, and then realized it wouldn’t mount to the desktop. Then I saw that the enclosure was for a 3.5” drive. Mine’s a 2.5”. I told the guy at Circuit City (yes, I’ll name the store) what I needed, and he didn’t give me the right thing. It wouldn’t be the hugest deal, except I’m on an island, and a car trip back to the store costs me $43.10 in ferry fare and 100 miles worth of gas, which in my car is $25 at least. So, I have a friend visiting next week and will ask him to stop at the store to return the drive. Then I proceeded to take out one of my old memory cards and put in a new, much bigger one. Easy to do, but when I turned on my computer, though it was running it did not bring up the desktop screen. Hmmm. So I put the old RAM back in, and used the 2nd port for the new card. No dice. I put everything back the way I had it, and the computer worked. I think I’ll have to go down to the Mac store, hand them everything, and have them do it. The way it was explained to me the process was “simple”. It never is simple. And so here I sit, with fewer than 2GB left on my hard drive, waiting for my new one. Thanks to my friend M, who will be bringing it to me! Read/Post Comments (2) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
