Cabin Days (from Scoutblog)

When I was a kid, my great-uncle Gus had a cabin up in Index, at the end of a private road. We'd spend at least a few days there every summer, playing in the river. Good memories.

I've wanted to live in a cabin ever since. Uncle Gus's cabin was a two-story deal with the bedroom on a second-floor loft. The windows on the tall wall looked out over the river. The living room area was tucked under the loft, complete with a fireplace. Lovely. Cozy. Fondly remembered.

When I think of my cabin, my someday cabin, I think of these things:

Not too big: My cabin would be something between 800-1000 square feet, probably with a sleeping loft.

Eco-friendly to some degree: I’d have a composting toilet, a rainwater catchment system, and (hell, let's dream) solar panels. If I could, I'd get a design that was built to take advantage of summer and winter sun for warmth and light.

Fun and relaxation: Hot tub or furo. Rope swing. Sauna. Tree house. Fireplace. Outdoor shower. Proximity to the woods or shore. A deck. A screen porch.

Oh yeah. The most important part: Someone to share it with me and the kitties. We like company.
