me in the piazza

I'm a writer, publishing both as SJ Rozan and, with Carlos Dews, as Sam Cabot. (I'm Sam, he's Cabot.) Here you can find links to my almost-daily blog posts, including the Saturday haiku I've been doing for years. BUT the blog itself has moved to my website. If you go on over there you can subscribe and you'll never miss a post. (Miss a post! A scary thought!) Also, I'll be teaching a writing workshop in Italy this summer -- come join us!

Daffodil triangle

Two of the gardens near me are on a triangular traffic island with a sidewalk between them. They have different gardeners. (NYC has a program where citizens can apply to garden in parks and on traffic islands.) The one who does the south garden changes the plantings every year and this year the early spring bulbs are all daffodils of varying types. Pale yellow with dark yellow centers, white with orange, tiny white ones with yellow. Some are frilly and some flat and plain. The earliest bloomers are closest to the sidewalk, and I don't know if the gardener planned it quite like this, but every day when I go by another few feet of flowers deeper into the garden have unfurled. Finally today the ones in the triangle's rear tip are open. It's like a slow-motion wave changing shades of yellow as it rolls.
