me in the piazza

I'm a writer, publishing both as SJ Rozan and, with Carlos Dews, as Sam Cabot. (I'm Sam, he's Cabot.) Here you can find links to my almost-daily blog posts, including the Saturday haiku I've been doing for years. BUT the blog itself has moved to my website. If you go on over there you can subscribe and you'll never miss a post. (Miss a post! A scary thought!) Also, I'll be teaching a writing workshop in Italy this summer -- come join us!

Delivered the thing

Finished the rewrites of IN THIS RAIN based on the first round of my editor's notes. Delivered it yesterday. As usual, a brief flash of relief, now depressed, like an actor when a show closes. Not that it's done: there'll be another major round and then copy edits, etc. And already I can see some more stuff I want to do. But I'm not touching it for another few days. Cleaning up; doing the laundry; sorting through books and papers I've let just pile up these last few months. (No, the laundry hasn't been piling up that long!) Georges Simenon used to say he felt miserable, feverish and out-of-sorts the whole time he was working on a book. The only time he felt worse, he said, was when he wasn't working on a book.
