me in the piazza

I'm a writer, publishing both as SJ Rozan and, with Carlos Dews, as Sam Cabot. (I'm Sam, he's Cabot.) Here you can find links to my almost-daily blog posts, including the Saturday haiku I've been doing for years. BUT the blog itself has moved to my website. If you go on over there you can subscribe and you'll never miss a post. (Miss a post! A scary thought!) Also, I'll be teaching a writing workshop in Italy this summer -- come join us!

Sept. 10

Bright sun glittering off sharp waves stirred by wind. Rounded clouds against pale blue sky. Joggers, dogwalkers, amblers all out; families with strollers, guys with golf clubs. Gull circles and swoops, finally picking his spot, settling on water, organizing his wings. (But in this fast-moving water, how does he choose?)

Last night, rain-delayed Labor Day fireworks. On the street, at first booms, people pale. Quick wave of fright, then someone points: green and gold sparkling near the moon. This is maybe not the best weekend for fireworks in New York.
