me in the piazza

I'm a writer, publishing both as SJ Rozan and, with Carlos Dews, as Sam Cabot. (I'm Sam, he's Cabot.) Here you can find links to my almost-daily blog posts, including the Saturday haiku I've been doing for years. BUT the blog itself has moved to my website. If you go on over there you can subscribe and you'll never miss a post. (Miss a post! A scary thought!) Also, I'll be teaching a writing workshop in Italy this summer -- come join us!

Obama, or, Could I Have Been This Wrong, I Hope?

Watching not only the coverage last night but the commentators' reaction to the coverage. Everyone seems to think it's possible the Democrats will actually nominate a black man for President. The cynic in me keeps wondering if he'd be doing this well against a white man instead of a white woman; but the optimist reminds the cynic there used to be white men in this race, and it's the woman and the black man who survived. The cynic wonders what will happen in November when there actually IS a white man in the race, against either of them. The optimist wonders that too. But both of me are feeling a little like Charlie Brown with the football. We're pretty sure we know what's coming, but we can tell we're about to believe and go for it anyway.
