I'm a writer, publishing both as SJ Rozan and, with Carlos Dews, as Sam Cabot. (I'm Sam, he's Cabot.) Here you can find links to my almost-daily blog posts, including the Saturday haiku I've been doing for years. BUT the blog itself has moved to my website. If you go on over there you can subscribe and you'll never miss a post. (Miss a post! A scary thought!) Also, I'll be teaching a writing workshop in Italy this summer -- come join us! |

2008-11-27 9:01 AM The good news and the bad news I'd been planning to just come on here and wish all you guys a good Thanksgiving before I trundle down to my sister's place in Philadelphia. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday for two reasons. One, there's no religious ritual involved (though saying that begs the question of whom, exactly, we're thankful to, but I'll pass on that for now) and two, a huge percent of the country is doing the same thing at the more or less same time. Very communal. So I was, and am, intending to enjoy this, with friends and family. And I wish you the same.
But the news out of Mumbai is so bad it throws a massive shadow on being happy. This is a new level of what we've all been afraid of for years. Yes, the death toll is way lower than 9/11; but an attack on ten targets at once -- I can't imagine what that must be like, though of course after 9/11 it was one of the things I imagined a lot, along with a bunch of other horrible things. So my heart is with the people of Mumbai, and I wish I had something philosophically comforting, hopeful, and meaningful to say. I don't. But you guys, if you're with people you love today, treasure the moment, somehow, anyhow. Happy Thanksgiving. Read/Post Comments (7) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
