Rain begins, big drops
Tossed carelessly from pearl sky
Spotting pale pavement.
Red buds fuzz gray limbs
Above ocher grass, tan leaves,
Brown muddy water.
First green grass of spring
Elbows up through yellowed turf,
Takes over again.
