I'm a writer, publishing both as SJ Rozan and, with Carlos Dews, as Sam Cabot. (I'm Sam, he's Cabot.) Here you can find links to my almost-daily blog posts, including the Saturday haiku I've been doing for years. BUT the blog itself has moved to my website. If you go on over there you can subscribe and you'll never miss a post. (Miss a post! A scary thought!) Also, I'll be teaching a writing workshop in Italy this summer -- come join us! |

2009-05-14 11:50 AM The new torture photos I'm backing into the whole subject of torture and the idea of prosecution, a truth commission, etc., because it's really, really hard for me to get my head around. I'll be doing more on it, but I want to say this about Obama's reversal on releasing the new photos: this guy, whatever else he is -- and most of what he is, I like a lot -- is a shrewd and subtle politician. All the arguments he's using to hold the photos back have already been rejected by the Second Circuit court. I think what's happening here is, he gets points from his own party and from the military for refusing to release them; the right doesn't get its Obama-is-a-traitor field day; and the photos get released anyway and he knows it. This is how he's handled the issue all along. I think we'll get our truth commission, if not prosecutions, and I think he'll appear as distant as he can from it, so he can go on doing what else needs to be done -- health care reform, the economy, the environment. Do not underestimate this man.
