me in the piazza

I'm a writer, publishing both as SJ Rozan and, with Carlos Dews, as Sam Cabot. (I'm Sam, he's Cabot.) Here you can find links to my almost-daily blog posts, including the Saturday haiku I've been doing for years. BUT the blog itself has moved to my website. If you go on over there you can subscribe and you'll never miss a post. (Miss a post! A scary thought!) Also, I'll be teaching a writing workshop in Italy this summer -- come join us!

Who knew you could get an egg cream in Perugia?

Well, you actually can't. What you can do is make yourself one, if the cheerful guy at the cafe by the bus station mixes you a weird, dark, sugary iced coffee in a martini shaker, and serves it in the kind of glass for cocktails with names like Angel's Kiss, and luckily one of your outing-to-Perugia companions has ordered fizzy water, so you dump some in your Angel's Kiss glass and voila! a coffee egg cream. Which anyone who grew up in NYC knows contains neither eggs nor cream. With the fizzy water, the thing was quite delicious. Though we were so hot and tired by then from hiking around the town, through the cathedral and museum, and to the medieval garden, and then more around the town (hiking around towns anywhere being my favorite thing) that it's possible it wasn't delicious; but I think it was.
