me in the piazza

I'm a writer, publishing both as SJ Rozan and, with Carlos Dews, as Sam Cabot. (I'm Sam, he's Cabot.) Here you can find links to my almost-daily blog posts, including the Saturday haiku I've been doing for years. BUT the blog itself has moved to my website. If you go on over there you can subscribe and you'll never miss a post. (Miss a post! A scary thought!) Also, I'll be teaching a writing workshop in Italy this summer -- come join us!

It's raining, though not pouring

Man, that was the longest pre-storm low-pressure wait NYers ever had a headache through. All day! Finally, now, rain, alternating from drizzle to deluge. Wind that gusts and falls. Fast-moving clouds and thick fog by the river. Most of the birds are huddled in the trees, but the herring gulls and blackbacks are wheeling across the sky, settling on pilings or in the water (might as well, they're getting blown off the pilings anyhow) and folding their wings to face into the wind. No cormorants, wonder where they go when it pours? The water's opaque green, high but not particularly fast, swells, no chop. Ferries are running, but the tug-and-barge traffic seems to have subsided to the docks to wait and see if this storm is as wild as the one last week. So far, it doesn't seem to be.
