me in the piazza

I'm a writer, publishing both as SJ Rozan and, with Carlos Dews, as Sam Cabot. (I'm Sam, he's Cabot.) Here you can find links to my almost-daily blog posts, including the Saturday haiku I've been doing for years. BUT the blog itself has moved to my website. If you go on over there you can subscribe and you'll never miss a post. (Miss a post! A scary thought!) Also, I'll be teaching a writing workshop in Italy this summer -- come join us!

Black ducks!

Okay, they're not really black. They look a lot like Gadwalls, but they're called American Black Ducks. We get a few on the river at migration time, but they generally don't stay. This year, though, Urban Naturalist has been telling me for weeks that he's seen a pair hanging around, keeping company with a couple of mallards. This morning I saw them myself.

Not my proudest moment photographically, but there they are. Wonder if they're planning to spend the winter. Leading to another question: do ducks plan?

While I'm here, can't give you yesterday's fog on the river, but today's isn't bad.

And for a bonus, here's your sidewalk Mondrian.
