me in the piazza

I'm a writer, publishing both as SJ Rozan and, with Carlos Dews, as Sam Cabot. (I'm Sam, he's Cabot.) Here you can find links to my almost-daily blog posts, including the Saturday haiku I've been doing for years. BUT the blog itself has moved to my website. If you go on over there you can subscribe and you'll never miss a post. (Miss a post! A scary thought!) Also, I'll be teaching a writing workshop in Italy this summer -- come join us!

Back to work NYC

Cold, bright, windy, and the city is humming again. Traffic light on the highway is back to workweek timing, meaning the wait is longer for us foot soldiers just trying to get to the river. Icy wind blasting us while we wait, too. Traffic's heavier than it has been since Christmas, makes a big roar behind my bench as it goes galloping by. Construction sites all around are bustling, with concrete being poured and crane booms swinging. The Christmas trees, which had started to hit the street on Christmas eve, are piled en masse at the curbs. Empty boxes and giftwrapping fill paper recycling bags beside the mounds of trees, and next to them blue glass-and-metal bags don't disguise the chubby shape and gold foil of champagne. Maybe it's just me, but everyone seems full of energy, ready to roll up sleeves and get to work. Looking at this world, there's lots to be done. Let's get to it. Go, 2012!
