I concede.

The luggage I bought in 1992 must be replaced. I bought my flower bags from walmart as a set. They were basically plastic laid over the back of fabric. I used them to go to college. They were not the last bags I bought, but they were the most frequently used. I've really only been using the larger two bags, because the smallest was just silly small -- more like a purse than a bag -- and the 2nd smallest got lost. To give you an idea, the largest flower bag I have been using has a length of 21". And a widening hole. I've put off replacing these bags partly because of the expense, but mainly because there are few options out there. You now see mounds and mounds of black square pullmans. I hate looking like every other traveler. I've made some errors in purchasing bags since the purchase of the flower bags, especially related to weight allowances and mobility. So this time around I want to take some time to figure out what kind of luggage to get. But not too much time. I want to get them before my next trip in January. So I went to my most reliable bag supplier so far, llbean.

My question to you is:
What is your favorite piece of luggage and why?

Small to Medium Carry-ons/check bags
The theory is that we will get one or two duffles bags for the short trips and to use as additional storage for the long trips. The tricky bit is that these bags are all about the same size as my current "large bag". This luggage effort could become super-sized very quickly. I hate having a bag I can't carry. It defeats the purpose. There is also the possibly of getting some kind of backpack thing, the problem being that we keep breaking the straps.
  1. Rolling Adventure Duffle

    Medium:2,000 cu. in. 11"H x 23"W x 11"D. 6 lb. 7 oz.
    Large 5,700 cu. in. 15"H x 30"W x 13"D. 8 lb. 2 oz.
Now who wouldn't want a rolling adventure? I just don't know about a rolling duffle. I feel like this is an idea that will get dated real quick or I'll buy it and it will be designed better next year.
  2. Adventure Duffle

    Medium: 2,024 cu. in. 11"H x 23"W x 11"D. 1 lb. 7 oz
    Large: 5,832 cu. in. 13"H x 30"W x 15"D. 2 lb. 4 oz.
This bag at least, they have had for awhile. I also like that we can do different colors, like crazy mad colors. I don't think I would check these and it's important that they be big enough to survive being sent through baggage claim without being pointless. But they shouldn't be so big that they are unwieldy when traveling through the airport or getting to the final destination.

Big Suitcases
I plan just to purchase one of these that we will share on long trips. I don't want it as a carry-on. Ever. I do want something that I won't have to replace until 2020. I want the zipper to be located anywhere but on the edge where it can be busted on a regular basis.
  1. Carryall Rolling Pullman, Large

    Large: 4,300 cu. in. 26"H x 18"W x 10"D. 11 lb.
This is the standard, cheap version of their pullman. No leather, no frills and a touch ugly. I don't think we will monnogram it unless we can do something silly like RTFM. That would be pleasing.
  2. Sportsman's Rolling Pullman

    Large: 3,690 cu. in. 26"H x 18"W x 10"D. 14 lb. Imported.
At least it comes in crazy hunter green. Guru will be pleased.
  3. Microfiber Rolling Pullman

    Medium: 2,700 cu. in. 22"H x 14"W x 9"D. 9 lb. 5 oz. Imported.
Large: 5,700 cu. in. 28"H x 20½"W x 11½"D. 12 lb. 8 oz. Imported. This one is nice because it is lighter but still durable. Again, I'm not taken by the look of it, but at least most of it's weight won't be taken up by its own hardware. The placement of the zipper could be better. Last thing I need is a light, broken bag.
  4. Ballistic Rolling Pullman

    Large: 5,100 cu. in. 26¼"H x 18"W x 10"D. 13 lb. Imported.
I just like that this has "ballistic" in the title. It is apparently the toughest fabric out there for suitcases and will probably survive an act of God. The trade off is that is kind of expensive.
