Mardi Gras is almost upon us. The outlying parishes, such as St. Tammany (mine), have been having parades the last couple of weekends. This weekend (tonight) New Orleans starts really getting into it.
And so is Jefferson Parish, which is just to the west of Orleans Parish. On Mardi Gras itself the celebrants in Jefferson Parish (JP) tend to be more family oriented, especially with entire families outfitted in the same manner. This is good. And JP has decided to really push the "family" thing this year. They have dubbed their celebration "Family Gras." I wonder if anyone actually thought of the implications of calling families "gras." Those of you who have a sort of mental image of Archie Bunker types can see where I'm going. Family gras. Yeah. (For those who don't know any French, "gras" means fat.)
