They're not sure how to measure the success of Mardi Gras in New Orleans this year. The usual way is by the number of tons of trash, but there is a new trash company in town and they were almost keeping up with things, especially in the French Quarter.

The consensus is that it was a good one.

It rained this morning for my drive in, but the rain was moving east and I was heading west, and when I got to Tulane it had stopped. I'd started a bit early and got a parking place right in front of the building! And, I was there early enough that the door was locked. However, the second key on my keyring opened it right up.

I started sorting through the papers that had been flooded, then treated, in the current collection. Most of the once-soggy papers have some wrinkles in them. But all in all, I think it's pretty amazing how they got them dried off etc.

I had an easy drive back home, with no delays. When I got home I turned on the TV to hear about how the westbound I-10 and I-610 traffics were at a complete halt. It seems a truck somehow lost its load of transformers right at the junction of I-10 and I-610. They spilled all over the highway--and leaked oil or something similar. Fortunately, there seem to be fewer of those "incidents" on the east side. (A large part of that is because fewer people live on the east side since Katrina.)

Yesterday afternoon, when I was feeding the cats, I realized that an emergency was in the offing if I didn't get more Kitty Litter very soon. So as soon as I'd fed them I dashed off to WalMart to get the litter, and to get a storage unit for my bedroom.

The cats can now "uneat" in clean sand.

And now that I am back home I can get into comfortable clothes.
