There I was, tooling around the store in the electric cart and I saw a kid a couple of aisles over that looked like GS. It was. He came over and dumped a Spiderman kids' chair in my basket and said it was for YGD's birthday. (That was three days ago.) Next thing, there was OD, who was obviously doing some shopping and had apparently spotted either me or my car. She explained that YGD loves Spiderman.

Birthdays and such tend to be celebrated whenever--with all the parents (and maternal grandmother) working things happen on the nearest convenient weekend--or whenever the
assorted people are free. The result (for the recipient) is a stream of gifts, rather than an all-at-once deluge. It's probably better that way.

The rest of today was pretty much as usual. I ended up taking a nap because I'd wakened rather early and then was unable to get back to sleep. When I woke up from the nap I was not in the mood for yard work--the temperature was such that the furnace fan cycled on so I shut off the furnace entirely. Instead, I headed for good old PJ's and some reading in A Mind of Its Own. Today's chapter was about Freud, and it was quite interesting.

I think I'll work Tues., Wed., and Thurs. this week. Thursday there's a major farewell party for the director of the Women's Center. (The invitations had "bumpy ink" for the wording, and included an RSVP card and envelope.)It runs from 5 to 7. Getting home late will not put me in the mood for getting up early for Friday. (Got that, YD? That's the day I need you to feed the felines on your way home.)

Back to the book.
