Mid-week--at least for those who work the "standard" Mon-Fri week.
And today my students had to turn in their paperlets--supposedly typed, double-spaced, etc. etc. I can forgive the student who e-mailed hers--the secretary left early so she wasn't able to get it into my mailbox. But at least two students turned in hand-written (aat least they are in ink!) papers. Ten points off for that, to begin with. I went to PJ's this afternoon with all sorts of resolves about starting grading, but succumbed intead to Copycat, by Erica Spindler. I am now anxious to read her newest, set in post-K New Orleans--"available in hardcover October 2007." If she has a signing on the North Shore I just might take myself to it. If YD hasn't already read Copycat I'll pass mine on to her. Slidell does not have a "big box" bookstore. It has a dinky B. Dalton in the mall, but you have to go the other end of the parish to find a really good selection at either the B&N or Books a Million. As I was driving home a bit before noon I couldn't help but notice a bit of relatively heavy traffic southbound on the old bridge. I looked over at the interstate bridge and could see slowdowns there. I guess it was one of the two or three days a week where they inspect and "tighten the bolts" on the "temporary" sections of the westbound bridge.
