Like most Wednesdays it began with my class. I normally get to Xavier by 7 AM, and when I got upstairs (office on second floor) I found four students waiting in the hall--to make up vocab quizzes.
Yesterday I'd figured out how to send an e-mail to the entire class without using Outlook--the "norm" for the system. And I reminded everybody that today's vocab quiz was #8, and most of them had missed #7. Now that I've got this "class message" down, I'll have to use it some more. Once class was over, I was followed to the office by a couple of kids who had gotten to class too late for the vocab and wanted to take it then. I finally got out by 9:30 and headed back to Slidell for an 11 AM dr. appointment. I take the Twin Span when I'm headed for that part of town and it is really interesting to watch the construction of the new bridges. At the moment it's mostly tall cement pilings--some of which are angled sort of catty-wampus--slowly making their way the five-6 miles across the lake. The new bridge(s) will be higher than the current one, and will have a section that goes WAAAY up. But that's a long way off. This week there were a few more pilings that had cement cross-spans in place. They appear to have two sections coming out of the north shore, but only one at the south. It's probably because of making connections with the land-based interstate. My understanding is that one section will be completed at a time. The current west-bound span is the one that gets inspected and bolts tightened several times a week. It has major weight limits on it, which big rigs regularly violate. YD said that the fines are probably worth the convenience. The alternative routes are quite long. Based on my irregular observations, I figure that the first span completed will be eastbound, then they'll shift the on/off ramps so that the current eastbound becomes westbound, and the current westbound (the one made of spit and toilet paper almost) can be done away with. Whatever. The NP didn't like my ear, so she brought in the dr. He didn't like it either, I guess, because he came up with yet another drug. At least I'm not feverish, and it doesn't hurt any more. Next week I get to check out the bridge construction progress again. And now I need to rewrite the Rome exam in my files. It's needed Friday. Fortunately, there's nothing I consider worth watching on TV. (Is there ever?) Read/Post Comments (2) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
