The only way the Saints stood a chance of getting into the playoffs was for several other teams to lose--and of course for the Saints to win today. Which they didn't.

New Orleans is busily getting all hyped up for the Sugar Bowl (an annual event) and then for the Bowl Championship game--which will supposedly annoint one team or another as Best in the Country. LSU will be in that one. (I think Ohio is the other team.)

The Sugar Bowl matches Hawaii and Georgia. And their respective fans are filling the French Quarter, hotels, and restaurants with their money. The NBA game between the Hornets and whatever team LeBron James is on was a sellout the other night. Any "local" with half a degree of intelligence is carefully avoiding the downtown area until after all the hoopla is over.

It rained this morning and sprinkled some this afternoon. Judging by the weather map, there will be more rain tonight. Because it was raining most of the night, Lady decided that she would sleep on the nice warm body on the couch. She weighs so little (at least, compared to 23# Fabian) that I was barely aware she was there.

The firecracker noise has begun. Tomorrow it will really peak. I don't think I've ever fully slept through it. But I've gotten sort of used to it and have no problems getting back to sleep. There's more fireworks activity at New Year's than at the Fourth of July.

No yard work today--aside from the Saints' game, it was still raining a bit in the afternoon.
