Today was back day. I took a cab to the hospital, signed in early, and got in early because they take people in turn. On my way to the room a young woman at the nurses' station called out "Miss Sue!! Do you remember me? You taught me swimming and was the best teacher I ever had!"
I quickly ran through my mental files of Jennifers I'd taught, and I actually recognized her. She was the oldest of three sisters. I ran into her mother somewhere in the past year. Some of the other staff recognized me (or my name) from previous visits. It was a different doctor today and I didn't actually meet him until I got to X-ray. He has a P.A. and she did all the reliminary stuff. Very nice and seemed quite knowledgeable. His procedure was a bit different from the other doctor, but that's to be expected. One thing that was really nice was the nurse who massaged my hands and fingers. It was very relaxing. That good old human touch helps every time. I have this procedure done without any sedation, and nobody argued about it. The nursing staff knew that I was fine. So, I am sitting here with a massively relaxed back--no cramping pains across it. And it will get even better over the next few days as the steroids do their thing. The best part of the day, however, came when a friend picked me up. I took her to lunch as a thank you and she opted for Olive Garden. I'd never been there, but the food was truly delicious! I think we took at least two hours to eat. And then when she brought me back to the house we "visited." She is an animal lover and had to meet my gang. Fabian, normally rather shy, recognized an animal person and came back to her for more petting. Lady, of course, likes all the petting she can handle. All in all, a VERY nice day. And it's Friday, which means I have two days off!
